Wallaroo Station

ZooTampa at Lowry Park is open daily from 9:30 am to 5 pm, with some special events occurring throughout the year. Visitors to the zoo should be prepared to experience hot and humid weather. Temperatures are typically pleasant year-round, although the hot summer months can be accompanied by frequent rainstorms. During the winter, temperatures are cool and there are fewer crowds. It is best to visit the zoo during the week.
The Zoo has expanded its participation in the Association of Zoo and Aquarium’s Species Survival Program for the critically endangered red wolf. Two female red wolves have been brought to ZooTampa and will pair with males to increase the number of red wolves in the area. The goal is to eventually release them into the wild. 95 Species Survival Plan projects
In its mission to conserve wildlife, ZooTampa at Lowry Park has announced a bold plan to make a real difference in the lives of endangered species. The organization is committed to supporting conservation efforts worldwide and works with partners like the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (ZAA), the Okapi Conservation Project, and the Pan Africa Sanctuary Alliance.
ZooTampa at Lowry Park originally opened in the 1920s as the Lowry Park Zoo. The name was changed to reflect the connection to Tampa and the evolution of the zoo. The Zoo plans to add more exhibits and expand over the next decade. In 2007, the zoo completed renovations to create its Asian Gardens. This area includes a collection of Malayan tigers, Indian rhinoceros, and an aviary with an Indonesian theme.
ZooTampa is involved in 95 Species Survival Plan projects that help protect the environment. For example, the zoo hosts a Florida manatee hospital where injured animals can be rehabilitated and released into the wild. The zoo also works with Florida’s Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to help protect these endangered animals.
